FACTS REGARDING DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS

According to the Bureau of Labor,  As of August 2024, about 5.5 million veterans — or ~31 % of all U.S. veterans — had a service-connected disability.

 The Census Bureau’s “Trends in Veteran Disability Status” notes that the share of veterans with any disability (service-connected or otherwise) increased from 15 % in 2008 to ~30 % in 2022.  

 According to a Department of Labor / VETS fact sheet: among veterans in the labor force, 2.6 million (30.2 %) reported a service-connected disability and 991,000 (11.5 %) reported another (non–service-connected) disability.
